Fogmaker Fire Suppression

PROTECTING VEHICLES IN THE UK AND IRELAND SINCE 2006

Fogmaker high pressure water mist is very efficient for extinguishing fires in multiple areas. The water mist gives an immediate choking and quickly cooling effect. Unique for the water mist is the fact that it fills the entire fire-protected area and access fire beds outside the direct spreading area of the nozzles. The water mist’s ability to quickly extinguish the fire limits the amount of damage in the engine compartment.

With hydro pneumatic fire detection the suppression system works with the same effect even when the electricity supply is disconnected. The system is also position independent (if the installation is laying on the side or up-side-down). Fire re-ignition is prevented by the adding of a smaller amount of foam to the water mist which lies like a choking blanket over the entire motor compartment. The extinguishing fluid that is generated from the water mist is environment friendly and it is easy to wash away.

OVER 200,000 GLOBAL INSTALLS

Since 1995 Fogmaker International AB has been developing, manufacturing and marketing fire suppression systems for engine compartments with high pressure water mist.

15,000 UK AND IRELAND INSTALLS

Since 2006 over 15,000 Fogmaker systems have been installed in the UK and Ireland.

RELIABILTY AND PERFORMANCE

The Fogmaker Fire Suppression system has a unique suppressing performance as it both cools down and smothers the fire, at the same time as the foam additive effectively prevent the fire from reigniting.

ACCREDITATIONS AND APPROVALS

Fogmaker holds a wide range of certifications and approvals including UNECE R-107, SPCR183-approved by SP, 2016, IATF-16949 and SS-EN ISO 9001:2015.

LOW MAINTENANCE

Once a year the system should be inspected and the functions tested by a certified installer. Normally, this does not take more than an hour. Every five years the suppression system should undergo a revision where the suppression fluids are also exchanged.

LOW LIFE CYCLE COST

The total life span cost of Fogmaker suppression systems is low compared with competing systems. Installation costs often fall below the cost of re-setting deployed alternative systems.

CROSSRAIL PROJECT

Fogmaker was chosen as the fire suppression system to be installed on a number of machines used in the creation of the vast underground network. PSVs sister company J.Lewis Auto Electrical were appointed as external contractors for the Government scheme. The obvious time, cost and safety repercussions of a fire underground meant that all contractor machinery entering the tunnels was to be fit with a Fogmaker system. Vehicles ranged from standard plant machinery to specialised machinery such as the 'Robodrill'.

LONDON BENDY BUS FIRES

Prior to 2006 the majority of fire suppression systems installed on buses in the UK were powder based. Increased space constraints and emissions targets meant that the danger of engine bay fires had increased significantly. The high profile Mercedes London 'Bendy' bus fires in 2004 led to the introduction of Fogmaker and the avoidance of several thermal incidents that would have otherwise been complete vehicle burnouts. This in turn led to a large retrofitting campaign. Over 700 vehicles had a powder system removed and replaced with the Fogmaker system. Fogmaker continues to be fit to all Mercedes buses as the standard fire suppression system of choice.

HAULAGE CAMPAIGN

Following a serious thermal incident one of the UK's leading haulage companies took necessary steps to protect its staff and its fleet. In the space of a few weeks PSV retrofitted over 400 HGV's with Fogmaker  in a country wide campaign. The installations to the engine bay beside the drivers cab mean that in the event of a fire should the driver become trapped the vehicles are equipped with a potentially life saving system.

ELECTRIC VEHICLES AND FOGMAKER

Can I use Water Mist in my Electric Vehicle?

Water and water mist are one of the best agents for for suppressing fire and cooling hot compartments and components. Water mist with additives is becoming considered one of the best extinguishing and cooling methods for Li-ion batteries.

What about the combination of water and electricity?

Water mist is not conductive due to micro sized droplets and insulating air between them. Electronics in Electric vehicles usually hold an IP Class of IP69K, well above IP66 which is the lowest level of water protection that Fogmaker has been tested on.

Fogmaker Mini Fire Suppression System (MFSS)

Fogmaker’s MFSS has an excellent suppressing effect in small, enclosed areas up to a volume of maximum 0.8 cubic meter. This product fills the need when it comes to protecting smaller enclosed areas, as the heater compartment, placed away from the engine area.

The Fogmaker MFSS system is largely position independent which makes this product versatile. Emptying time is approximately 50 seconds. The Mini Fire Suppression System is also an option for smaller closed compartments in electrical vehicles where there are incendiaries such as diesel heaters, compressors, electrical hydraulics and other electronics.
